Winter Fun

Like most places in North America, we've had quite the winter...here it just means we've finally had a "normal" winter with lots of snow and cold. While it's been harder to get outside and do things this winter with a baby, we've still managed some fun things.

 One of those things is watching the snow fall outside or Daddy snow-blow. 

Who knew that could be so exciting?

 This picture was taken in January and shows our van in comparison to the snowbank by our driveway. (The snowbank at the end of our driveway was so big we couldn't drive through until snow-blowing it.) The snowbank on the right is pretty much as tall as our van. Pulling out on the highways is a bit of a guessing game sometimes as to whether there is really someone coming or not.

 We had our first tandem of logs delivered to use for firewood. The past 3 years we've used the wood from the acre or so area that we cleared to build our house. I'm so thankful that David enjoys doing firewood! He's already stacked and cut this whole load within a month!  (It does go faster since the logs don't have to be split for our wood furnace as it can take quite large pieces.) He hopes to get at least 2-3 winters out of the wood.

 Nathan and I enjoyed watching the truck from his window. The operator used a giant claw to move all the logs off of the truck. I was quite impressed!

 We visited some friends that have to shovel tunnel paths to their house...without a snow-blower too.

I thought it was funny to see how big the snow-walls were compared to Nathan (as of Jan 31). 

 If you're going to live in a cold place you might as well embrace it with a cute hat and beard. Thanks to our friend Robin who made this adorable minion hat...as if the kid didn't get enough attention when we were out before. he he

 We enjoyed Family Day together and finally made it out on the ice. There's a nice rink that's maintained by the Lion's Club about 7 minutes from us in Port Sydney right by the lake. Last year I didn't go skating because I was pregnant so it was nice to get out on skates. 

 Nathan LOVED getting swung around the ice in his sled. He would flap his arms with excitement as he glided around.

 AND...he had his first experience in skates! They may not have really stayed on, since they're huge on him but it worked.

Yay for the start of things to come!

*Note: Nathan's snowsuit has a "M" for the Minnesota Gophers of the University of Minnesota, not for McMaster University in Ontario as is commonly thought, although strangely enough the colours are the same.
